“And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” –Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

At times what we see with our eyes looks like failure or wrong-ness. It can look fuzzy and one might feel lost. But when we look with the heart we see our own value. We recognize those dreams we thought were forgotten. We find what matters most to us and we realize we were never really lost at all. Only exploring.

Kids

“All grown ups were once children…but only a few of them remember it.” –Antoine de Saint-Expuréy

Being a kid can be so tough. Only on the planet for a few years really, and they have so much to do. So many rules to learn-and they usually learn them only after they’ve broken them. So many big feelings floating around in tiny bodies. Who has time for it all with all the bubbles to be blown, butterflies to chase and a Lego Death Star in peril? By joining a child’s world we can understand them better and help them understand themselves. We know the language of the world. They know the language of their heart. Sometimes you just need a translator.

Teens

“No one is satisfied where he is…only the children know what they’re looking for.” –Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Teens absolutely know what they’re looking for. And everyday it changes. That’s what’s so fun about Teenageland. Yes, we can’t keep up. And yes, they seem to make absolutely nonsensical choices that frustrate us and scare us and make us want to scream. But they do know what they’re looking for. Whether “it” changes everyday or every minute, teens are looking for themselves. And when they figure out how to get out of their own way, they usually find themselves. Helping them to get out of their own way is where the real work begins.

Couples

“What makes the desert beautiful,’ said the little prince, ‘is that somewhere it hides a well.”– Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

A relationship can sometimes begin to feel like the desert. The vast, windy, dry, boring desert. With nothing in sight for miles to rest; just to rest a minute. But within that desert is a well that holds laughter, memories and tenderness. In that well is the stuff of love and often just remembering it’s out there is enough. But other times that well needs a little tending. It needs a little work. And that work we can do together. Just remember through all the hard work, the desert also has remarkable sunsets.
